The precursor to drone and arial surveillance…kite photography. George R. Lawrence built his 49 pound camera and using 9 to 17 kites with bamboo frames and piano wire; he would fly the camera up to 2000 feet. Its large size allowed Lawrence to expose negatives up to 20x48 inches with great detail.
